Hi:
I recently became a member of http://www.warehouse123.com.
I’m intending to go looking round just a little and encounter interesting people and discover several tips.
Hopefully this message does not end up in a bad section. I’m sorry if it does.

owned SA5000, CD3000 and still own ATH-W5000 and a few stax systems. Eager to compare =)

The Z1000 look very impressive and I’m looking forward to playing with and listening to my pair immensely. Please ship soon
.
WRT Sony headphones/earphones, I had the CD3000, SA5000 and EX700sl/lp. I am really hoping the Z1000 will fix the (personally perceived) shortcomings I feel the three had (as unfair it is to compare to the closed SA5000 or IEMs (errr, earbuds…)).
Namely, I hope: they’re not coloured (CD3000…hard to explain how. EX700 – sibilant with most music – highs and upper mids too prominent) or too bass lean (I feel, SA5000 need 3-6db from about 100hz down for say rock music), do not have weak headband parts or solder joints to the drivers/poor stain relief (both CD/SA), don’t have cheap flaky faux-leather pads or headband (CD3000).
I’d be much obliged if you could address the following in the review:
- overall sound signature on a relatively neutral source and amp
- long term (2-3h+) wearing comfort, if possible in hot environments (25-30C+) (any comments about potential pressure spots from the earpads or the headband would be nice. I guess in general the clamping strength as well. Also, how deep are the earpads, and are there comfort issues from ears touching the drivers?)
- build quality and in particular, their suitability for use in a portable setting and how sturdy the cable socket appears (would it snap out if I tug on it or clip on something).
- if you contact sony and inquire about coiled and straight cable replacement availability and pricing. (pretty sure their pro audio equivalent of Z1000
- whether the pads are leather or not

almost forgot, as much detail on the Liquid Crystal diaphragm would be nice
. Sony marketing and engineers must’ve worked hard as usual. (re: their history of experiment e.g. biocellulose diaphragms on CD3000 and SA5000 (?))

I ordered the Z1000 from warehouse123 on December 31st via fedex. They arrived in Germany on January 4th in perfectz condition – great service. The phone itself has great built quality and are very comfortable to wear. There is no heat buildup under the pads even if you wear them for an extended period of time.
As to the sound they are smooth and laidback while keeping detail and focus – something I would not have expected after listening to the SA1000. Bass is tight, low reaching and not overblown, mids are fine and detailed, treble is smooth and well extended.
I can highly recommend this phone to anybody who needs faithful reproduction of sound for an extended period of time.
Plus I can recommend warehouse123 as a reliable vendor.
